So, you’re bringing in over $10K a month (nice!), but when you peek at your bank account at the end of the month, it’s looking… a little sad. Where the heck did it all go? And why does it always feel like you’re working hard but have nothing to show for it?

Spoiler alert: The issue isn’t how much money you’re making—it’s how much you’re keeping.

Revenue Is Just One Piece of the Puzzle

Here’s the truth no one tells you: Revenue alone won’t fix your business problems. Sure, it feels great to land a big client or hit a revenue goal, but if your expenses are eating up everything you make, you’re spinning your wheels.

If your goal is to make $5K in profit, bringing in $10K sounds good… until you realize you spent $8K on tools, software, random Amazon purchases, and that Canva subscription you forgot you had. Now you’ve got $2K left—and no, that’s not what we call “thriving.”

The only way to know what you’re really making? Track it. All of it. Every dollar.

Set Profit Goals Like a Boss

Forget trying to hit some arbitrary revenue milestone—the real magic happens when you focus on profit. Ask yourself: How much do I actually want to take home this month? Not how much you hope to make—how much you want in your pocket after the bills are paid.

If you want $5K in profit, then you’ve got to keep your expenses in check.

  • Brought in $10K this month? Great.
  • Spent $6K on business expenses? Cool, that leaves $4K.

Oops—just missed the profit goal, right? This is why you need to track every expense and know exactly what’s going out each month. If you’re flying blind, those little costs will sneak up on you, and suddenly you’re wondering why there’s no money left to pay yourself.

Good Bookkeeping = A Clear Path to Profit

Here’s where bookkeeping makes your life 100 times easier. When your books are up to date, you’ll know exactly where your money is going. You’ll be able to spot those unnecessary expenses, see which clients are actually worth your time, and stay on top of things like taxes and invoices.

This isn’t about logging numbers for the sake of it—it’s about giving yourself the power to make better decisions. When you have a clear picture of your finances, you stop guessing and start taking control. That’s how you build a business that makes AND keeps money.

And look, I get it. Bookkeeping isn’t exactly fun—but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming either.
